A Finish !!!!
I'm amazed how lovely this quilt turned out, having used tons of not so pretty, little 1.5 inch squares.
While working on the nine patches, I kept thinking Britt would really like these colours. So it has now been finished and gifted as a wedding present to Britt and Nick.
I stitched in the ditch in the main part of the quilt and hand quilted straight
lines in the border.
I went with a white backing in keeping with the clean, bright feel of the front.
The extra wide white material was my one and only purchase, still trying to use what I have.
Just scraped by with my last bit of this for my binding... about 12" left of my binding leftover. I used to cut binding strips at 2.5" but wasn't happy with the result. Now I cut them at 2.25" with a much cleaner looking finish.
71.5" x 61" before washing
90-3" plus blocks
89-3" scrappy 9-patch blocks
A photo of the newlyweds, I couldn't resist:
I've been cutting a 2 1/4" binding myself, and like it much more also. I love how the black pops in your quilt. Very lovely finish.
ReplyDeleteThanks for stopping by and commenting. I don't plan it, but a certain amount of black tends to end up in most of my quilts lately.
DeleteYour quilt looks great! It's nice to know you prefer the smaller width for binding. I currently use 2 3/8, but have lately been considering taking it down to 2.25. Your testimonial might be the nudge I need to give it a try.
ReplyDeleteGive it a try on your next quilt :)
DeleteVery very nicely done! You are very patient to use both such small squares AND do the hand quilting too. Great work!
ReplyDeleteI'm not sure it's patience or frugality lol. I just hate to throw out material ....1.5" squares are the smallest I save. As for the hand quilting, that is total relaxation during tv time.
DeleteWhat a great stashbuster quilt. It's lovely
ReplyDeleteWhat a beautiful scrap quilt - my favorite kind! I love a bit of black in a quilt. It's a nice contrast to the bright colors. I use 1.5" squares all the time because everything looks cuter in a smaller size.
ReplyDeleteReally pretty, and love the black accents! Wow!!
ReplyDeleteThis is so pretty all finished. I love the hourglass blocks as setting blocks.
ReplyDeleteSuch neat pressing on the back, as shown in the fourth photo! Love this idea of using scrappy blocks. The binding is such fun fabric!
