Sashing with Tula's Lazy Stripe

Sashing with Tula Pink's Lazy Stripe fabric.

These strips are cut at 1 1/2 inch, finishing at 1".  

  

I've been wanting to do a striped sashing for a while and have been hording these 2 metres for a year or so.

 

I plan to put a border on to increase the size but haven't quite figured out where I want to go with that.  Just waiting for inspiration to hit!

TINYTUESDAY BLOCKS....done!!!!

I've been making some of the Tiny Tuesday Blocks from the  RSC 2019 Sampler page.

I didn't make all of the ones found there, but filled in the blanks with some wonky stars and other easy blocks.  I didn't follow the monthly rainbow colours, but rather just used scraps, avoiding red in this one.

This was definitely a fun way to use up scraps. 

I'm thinking of a thin stripey blue sashing, 1", to break up all that pink.

ADVENT CALENDARS

The Advent Calendars are done well before the deadline!!

The first one was inspired by a pin on Pinterest which led me HERE.  My measurement are different but the basic idea is the same. 

Mine finishes up at 17" x 27".  

The pockets were made by cutting 5 strips at 5" x 17.5",  sewing each into a tube and sewing it in place along the bottom onto the bottom section.

The numbers were stenciled on with fabric marker.

This one goes to my grandson, Hudson.

 

The next one was made from a panel.  I thought it would be easier but it was actually more finicky for me.  However, it is cute so I'm happy with it.  This one is for my granddaughter Ivy.

Moving Along the W I Ps

The sewing room is resembling a tornado zone, I really need to start finishing a few things so I will at least FEEL a bit more organized, but who am I kidding. 

I was unsure whether or not to join the quilt guild this year since I was out of town during the first meeting.   I did join this month and so glad I did.  One of the things I love is bringing home a flimsy made by another member  and doing the quilting and binding.   Then another quilt ready for the outreach team to distribute.

The flimsy I picked was cheerful and bright, just the prescription for our increasingly dark days.

My fmq needed some practice so I did a flower in the centre of each block.  In the sashing I just did a single line hand stitched with perle cotton.  My first block with fmq was not so great, so I re-did it....I really do need to work at it more than once or twice a year.

Next up is are the Tiny Tuesday  blocks, 4.5 inches. These will be a while.  Most of these are from Angela at soscrappy

The Hexies are still on the 5 year plan :)  All laid out on the bed, I feel like I'm maybe 3/4 of the way done.  I'm thinking of a bit of a plain border on this.  Anyway 158 done, about 50 to go!

On the design wall:

The X-Plus quilt has been quilted finally!!!!  By hand, not very dense, just diagonal lines.

The binding is machine sewn to the front, soon to be hand sewn on the back.

All she needs is a name.

ONCE UPON A TIME

Hudson: Year #1

A  t-shirt/onesie quilt  to commemorate my great grandson's first year.
They are a 2 hour drive from us, in Toronto....but are moving at least 30 minutes closer and we are so excited because that will mean I can hop in the car and visit way more often without the stress of Toronto traffic....Yaaaay!!

I used 5 and 10 inch blocks.

I ran out of the yellow for the inner border so improvised with some white mixed in on either side.

The backing and binding are from an Ikea duvet cover.  I love using duvet covers for backings..so you'll see the other side of the duvet cover on one of my next quilts soon :)

Gifted !!  I love it when you can tell they love the quilt ...success :))

# FAMILY was a special project for my neice Melanie and her family.   Some of the fabric was used to decorate the hall for their wedding ... not quite sure how long ago that was :)   Anyway, after the reception was finishing up I decided to gather up what fabric I could and use it in a future quilt for the family.

Most of the blocks are 12 inch and from Lori Holt's "Spelling Bee" and " Farmgirl Vintage,"  with a few 6 inch blocks as well:

Hand quilted with regular quilting thread and perle cotton.

WESTON SPEEDWAY

It started as a frugal plan to do some scrapbusting with a future boy quilt in mind.  Lots of 9 patches were made in green and blue.

Tiring of that....  some alternate blocks for a change of scenery at the sewing machine.   So hourglass blocks were made:

Also I added  4 1/2 inch squares of some yardage.

Then to personalize it:

... and of course a name:

Hand quilted overlapping circles with a light grey quilting thread in the centre and red perle cotton in the outer areas.

Backed with a repurposed flannel sheet.

Named,washed and ready for gifting.

This one's for  my nieces son who recently became a big brother.

"Have Faith"  Donation Quilt

I found the HAVE FAITH Quilt Block online a while ago and finally finished 20 blocks.  Not quite big enough, I added a scrappy 3 inch border.

  This was offered as a free pattern with the request that you donate the finished quilts to a charity.  Last night I passed it on to my local guild (LFQG) and they'll find a good home for it.

This is a fun, simple 12 block (finished)....yes, yes it did take 9 months to finish but that was just all my other quilty projects fighting for attention...you all know how that goes!!
