A Finish !!!!

I'm amazed how lovely this quilt turned out, having used tons of not so pretty, little 1.5 inch squares.

While working on the nine patches, I kept thinking Britt would really like these colours.  So it has now been finished and gifted as a wedding present to Britt and Nick.

I stitched in the ditch in the main part of the quilt and hand quilted straight 

lines in the border.

I went with a white backing in keeping with the clean, bright feel of the front.

The extra wide white material was my one and only purchase, still trying to use what I have.

Just scraped by with my last bit of this for my binding... about 12" left of my binding leftover.  I used to cut binding strips at 2.5" but wasn't happy with the result.  Now I cut them at 2.25" with a much cleaner looking finish.

My First Leaders and Enders Project

Well the top is done,  now trying to decide on a backing.   I wanted to do a Minky backing, but I'm pretty sure Minky only comes 60 inches wide .... about 10" too short for this job.

Since this picture, I've added a 4 inch white border all around to give it a more modern feel.

There's a fair amount of "ugly" scraps in those 9-patches, but the overall effect is not nearly so ugly :)

Another shot at reducing my stash  ... this time it was hard to finish.  Difficult to find the eagerness to sew when the colours are not that cheerful.  Now that it's done, I do like it.  It will be a charity quilt next Christmas for a senior's gift drive  in our area.

I've started a leader and enders project of nine patch crosses, scrappy nine patches and quarter-square triangles:

These BOM's from last year are on the design wall .... I'm waiting for inspiration to hit me with a great idea of how to finish them off into a lovely quilt.  

First Try at Triangles

Such a glamorous shot, taken in the basement with the sheets drying.    Cold, dark and wet outside, so the basement will do for now.

Made from stash, except for the backing.

Quilted with wavy organic lines using my walking foot.

Backed with some extra wide flannel.

The wavy quilting is far from perfect, but I'm ok with it.  I'm sure whichever little boy ends up cuddling under it won't even notice!

I quilted by machine in the ditch around the squares  and then hand quilted around each star as well as hand quilting a circle in the centre of each star.

Washed and wrinkly cozy in all the pics. As usual, so eager to get it in the laundry that I forgot to take some pictures when it was still nice and flat !!

A reader suggested the orange binding ... I wasn't sure, but I LOVE it !!! Thanks Tammy Stack for the nudge to go bold.

BRITT'S T-SHIRT QUILT

 After much procrastination .... My first attempt at a t-shirt quilt, finally done !!

I was worried about ruining Britt's WE DAY shirts, worried about colours matching, had trouble finding the border material....

I backed it with grey minky , with that and the stabilizer it made for a very warm and heavy quilt.   The backing was Britt's favourite part of the quilt and she hinted at all future quilts having a minky backing :)

It was a bit of a beast to quilt with all that weight, so I kept it simple with organic lines, using invisible thread on the top and grey on the back.

I had 3 little orphan blocks that were trying to make their way onto the quilt, but only one made the cut.

Brittnei: Here's hoping this quilt will keep reminding you of all the good memories and great freinds from your time spent with the WE DAY TEAM  , and also provide warmth and coziness as you build a future with Nick.    Last but not least, may it always remind you how much your grandma loves you.

TUMMY-TIME

A cute little quilt perfect for tummy time.  I picked up a charm pack of  "Dot-Dot-Dash"  over a year ago and finally used it, pairing it up with some white I had on hand.    These are taken before washing .... so pretend the blue marks aren't there :)

Then on to practicing my free motion skills.

The binding is from my stash.  It's a bit brighter than the rest of the quilt, but it works.


The pinwheels were not in my plan, but I ran out of white and had to improvise.

An all-pinwheel baby quilt is on my to-do list mainly so I can do fmq in the background and let the pinwheels pop.

The backing is leftover orange and purple from an earlier quilt.

All washed and crinkly ... ready for gifting or donating, not yet sure.
