WHAT'S BLACK, RED AND WHITE?

A stack of black and white fat quarters has been taunting me since last summer.  I had planned on pairing it with some pink, but after using the pink in another project recently .... well, I didn't want anything to do with pink for a while!

I was inspired by Gundrun's Elvira Quilt,  I didn't have the srtipology ruler they were using so I just decided to change it up a bit with some applique and embroidery.  It doesn't really look like all the Elvira quilts, but that was my starting point.

I'm curious to see how the embroidery will hold up in the wash.

Handquilted ....  during this Covid lockdown handquilting has definitely been a stress reliever.

Extra hexie flowers from another project ..... why not ?? 

The binding is some Tula Pink Fabric I found on sale at a store closing last summer.  I've been waiting for a project this might work with.  Love, Love LOVE  me some TULA fabric!

Backed with a super soft pink minky to maximize the coziness factor !!  Yes pink did sneak into this quilt after all :)

Yay, just enough "Je t'aime" material to piece  a bit in.

Timeline:  March - April 2020 (Covid-19 Lockdown)

Size: 42" x  54"  (40" x 52" after washing and drying)

Can I Get a Whoop Whoop

DOUBLE DOUBLE

Inspired by Amy at " A Quilting Sheep", I began making 4-patches with my 1 1/2 in squares, then matching those 2 1/2 inch 4-patches with  2 1/2 inch squares to make double 4-patches. I took it one step further and added 4 1/2 inch squares to make "double-double 4 patches".  

These are 8.5 inches (8 " finished). 

From there I decided how big I wanted this to be.....  64 x 72 it will be!

Ok so that meant I needed 288 of the small four patches,

....288 2.5" squares  and

....144 4.5 " squares.

Exactly what I wanted, an easy scrap project with no triangles and no specific background colour.

I did find it easier to attach row by row rather the constructing each 8.5 inch double-double 4patch separately.

I love to hand quilt and decided to use a clamshell design for the first time.  I made a template from a cereal box for this step.

While handquilting I did notice one little square had a tear in it :(  

Raw edge applique heart to the rescue!!

Corona Finish # 1

Two weeks in.... in the pandemic, in my house.  

 I'm so thankful to have a great husband to self-isolate alongside. 

 Also extremely thankful to have a hobby to keep me occupied.

The top came together quickly with a jellyroll and some turquoise from my stash.

This one may be going to new parents, the mommy being a cat lover, I had to get some kittens in there somewhere!

Free motion quilting on my Janome Memory Craft 9000.

Binding machine stitched to the front and hand stitched to the back.

TWO CHARITY FINISHES

Someone in the guild pieced this one, I quilted and bound it.

Organic wavy lines.

A small, 38 x 38 inch baby quilt...an attempt to use up scraps and set blocks on point for a change.

WAY TOO MANY  "WIP'S"

This really should be the year to finish things and not start ANY new projects. But....I do need to make a quilt for a very special June wedding this year.  So, maybe just one or two new projects.

 I found the Bari J Quilt-a-long pattern online and couldn't resist.

                                                                           

This one in pretty much done, I still need to do some applique or "broderie perse" on the lower section as the pattern called for.

I'm really looking forward to doing big stitch hand quilting on this one!

Trying something different on this one with some fun words in the border.  Borders are not my favourite job so I've decided to procrastinate :)

Barnyard Orphans

I need a plan for these  12 inch orphan blocks from Lori Holts books.

EPP 5 YEAR PLAN

There has been progress, there has also been some seam-ripping happening.  Back on track and hopefully I learned something!

The top 3 rows are sewn together , 4th and 5th together, and 6th and 7th together. The rest of the flowers are just set there.

I decided to remove any flowers with black and am much happier with it now.

Sashing with Tula's Lazy Stripe

Sashing with Tula Pink's Lazy Stripe fabric.

These strips are cut at 1 1/2 inch, finishing at 1".  

  

I've been wanting to do a striped sashing for a while and have been hording these 2 metres for a year or so.

 

I plan to put a border on to increase the size but haven't quite figured out where I want to go with that.  Just waiting for inspiration to hit!

TINYTUESDAY BLOCKS....done!!!!

I've been making some of the Tiny Tuesday Blocks from the  RSC 2019 Sampler page.

I didn't make all of the ones found there, but filled in the blanks with some wonky stars and other easy blocks.  I didn't follow the monthly rainbow colours, but rather just used scraps, avoiding red in this one.

This was definitely a fun way to use up scraps. 

I'm thinking of a thin stripey blue sashing, 1", to break up all that pink.
