16-PATCH

 I've made many 4-patches and 9-patches, but I've been trying to broaden my horizons so on to the 16-patch. 

You can definitely trace the inspiration back to ..... of course, Pinterest.

2" squares, 8" blocks

40" x 56"

Backed in a navy fabric, left over from the Dinosaur quilt.

The binding is a Tula Pink (?)  I love this wonky stripe and have used it a lot.

So thankful this guy 💗 gave me the nudge to try my hand at quilting a decade or so ago.

DOUBLE DOUBLE # 2

This is my second DOUBLE-DOUBLE 4-patch quilt.  I love the first one, but shortly after finishing the handquilting, we upsized to a king bed from a double...a larger quilt was needed. 

I decided to cut the pieces larger this time ( 2", 3.5",and 6.5"), and it did speed up the process but I have to admit I prefer the first quilt with the smaller pieces.

Lots of scraps and stash, some that I loved

...and some not so much.

The backing is a repurposed Ikea duvet cover.

DINOSAUR PARADE

Dinosaur Parade for a special little guy.

Started in August and armed with the Elizabeth Hartman Dinosaur pattern, I began with a goal of a Christmas finish.  I did finish in time, even with our Christmas party a week early. Changing up the pattern layout really did help  me meet my deadline.

This is the pattern, and I really like it, but I just couldn't make that many dinos in time.

Just look at that cute little face, I think he likes it, yayyy!!!

The grandkids sure do light up our lives, such a blessing to watch them grow and veiw the world from their amazing, wondering eyes.   

Back home on his own bed:

Hand quilted, big stitch.

Plenty big for a double bed.

Quality control check was done before gifting, by a helpful cousin and her toy dino.

Dinos!

Orange is the colour for Angela's Rainbow Scrap Challenge (RSC)  this month .   The dinos aren't really a scrap project but and few scraps have found their way in. 

They are from an Elizabeth Hartman pattern purchased at my local quilt shop, Sew Creative, in Mount Brydges.  They have the smaller version of the pattern done up in a beautiful finish.   A little inspiration always helps.

I'm planning to change up the layout, not quite sure yet how...... possibly in rows.

 

Four orange and four red done, on to the teal/aqua next and then yellow.

 

The dino colony so far:

I started about a month ago and will have it done for a Christmas gift.

  I will, I will, I willl..... I keep telling myself 👍

Project Linus 2021 Quilt #5

I Spy another charity quilt, this one using 5 inch squares(4.5 "finished) in a 7 x 10 grid set in a plain 4.5 inch border.

I was lucky to have a cute model/helper in my granddaughter Livia.  She gets credit for the last photo in this post, it's me hiding behind the quilt and her behind the camera.

Nothing too girly here, no pink, purple or flowers ...but I think boys and girls would both like it.

Some fabrics were used multiple times.

Hand quilted in my usual big/utility stitches.   Showing the back here so you
 can get the effect.

Orphans In a Row

 

My little orphan quilt, a collection of discarded blocks and scraps, now waiting for a forever family .

The large 12" blocks are from Lori Holt's "Farm Girl Vintage" book and were sewn too many years ago to remember when !

The points on the 4.5" wonky stars are made from triangle scraps, usually from bindings.

The nine patches were made for another project, long forgotten and abandoned.

I used a repurposed duvet cover for the backing, which I love doing but I'm not sure if any charities will accept this one since they prefer all new materials.

Hand quilted with perle cotton on all the solid pink areas and with regular hand quilting thread in all the other sections.

Block sizes: 4.5, 9 and 12 inch

Project Linus 2021 Quilt #4

 

Another gender neutral donation quilt.  I have to admit, I miss using more girly colours, but I know ones like this are needed. 

The squares were cut at 5" and set in a 9 x 11 grid, finishing off at 40.5" x 49.5" before washing.

There are lots of  free tutorials for plus quilt out there.

I free motioned the wonky grid on both sides of all the seams.

A fun black and white animal print for the backing ... If you look reallllllly hard, you'll see a tiny dot of  pink on each elephant.  Somehow I missed that little pink detail, but it's not too noticeable and  still looks gender neutral to me :)
